1) Landmannalaugar
Multiple short hikes
-
great hiking area
-
did a combination of shorter hikes there accessible with a 4x4 car (quite adventurous ride!) or bus

2) Skogar to Thorsmork
2 days, 25 km length, 1100m elevation
-
my favorite hike in Iceland;
this is also part of a long-distance trail that is supposed to be amazing; went back with a truck we booked at the end of the trail – drive back included a river crossing https://www.alltrails.com/de/route/iceland/fimmvorduhals
3) Peaks of Balkan
10 days, 190 km length, 1700m elevation
-
great hike through three countries (Albania, Montenegro, and Cosovo) through quite rural areas, staying with locals in small cabins on the way; cabins could be booked online even just a few weeks before the hike.

4) Seven Sisters
1 day, 22km length, 77m elevation
-
lovely hike along the British coast – you can go as long as you like, there is a couple of bus stops along the trail; great for kids, too

Short Hike

another part of the Icelandic highlands; due to bad weather I only did a small hike around the area, which looks like from another planet; accessible by 4x4 car

A bit scary to stand on top of this rock, but allegedly nobody ever fell so far… :)
